Propitiatory dances

During the centuries and among different civilizations, the dance acquired several different meanings: therapeutic, erotic, weeding dance, funeral, initiatory and propitiatory. Not a frivolous activity but rather a very ancient practice that 20,000 years old paintings testify.

Figures with coloured masks, animals and sometimes arms, are represented while making propitiatory rituals for hunting and fertility. Even today, in various African societies remain alive some typical dances that beat the life’s time.
